The Advocate General for the state of Punjab, APS Deol today issued a press statement saying that Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu is obstructing the functioning of the office of the Advocate General.

In the press statement, Sidhu has been accused of trying to derail the 'earnest efforts' of the State Government to ensure justice in the "Drugs matter" and the "Sacrilege Cases".

AG Deol has also alleged that Sidhu was politicizing the constitutional office of the Advocate-General of Punjab for his own political gains.

"Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu is obstructing the functioning of the Government and the Office of the Advocate General. His repeated utterances seek to derail the earnest efforts of the State Government to ensure justice in the "Drugs matter" and the "Sacrilege Cases". Shri Navjot Singh Sidhu is spreading misinformation to gain political advantage over his political colleagues. There is a concerted attempt by vested interests to malign the functioning of the Congress Party in view of coming elections in Punjab for their selfish political gain by politicising the constitutional office of the Advocate General of Punjab," reads the statement of Punjab AG.

It may be noted that Sidhu had issued a public statement yesterday that he would be assuming the charge of the Chief of the Punjab Congress once the AG for the State of Punjab is changed.

Last month he had even resigned from the post of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief after objecting to the name of Deol as the AG for Punjab.

He had alleged that since Doel appeared for former State DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and Paramraj S. Umaranangal, accused in the 2015 Sacrilege and Behbal Kalan police firing cases, he wasn't fit for the AG's post.

In view of this controversy, Deol had even resigned from the post of the AG for Punjab, however, his resignation was not accepted by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi.
