Maharashtra National Law University Implements Menstrual Leave Policy For Students

The Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai has recently approved and implemented 'Menstrual Leave Policy for Students'.

As per the said policy, students undergoing menstruation shall be eligible to take 01 day leave per month in which classes are conducted on self-certification basis.

Furthermore, as per the policy there shall be a cap of 05 Menstrual Leave Day (MLD) per semester.

The other details of the said policy are as follows:

1. Menstrual Leave can be sought by the student on self-certification basis, by applying (in Physical Mode) for availing Menstrual Leave to Student Affairs within 07 working days of claiming such leave.
2. Menstrual Leave shall not be available for mid-sem, end-sem, class test, viva voce or any other examination.
3. The University reserves the right to review such leave in case of abuse of the policy.
4. This policy shall be reviewed periodically for modification or improvement.

The policy is applicable with effect from April 04, 2024.

It is to be noted that previously, several National Law Universities (NLUs) namely MNLU Aurangabad, NLIU Bhopal, DNLU Jabalpur, NALSAR Hyderabad and NLUJA Assam have introduced menstrual leave policies for its students.
