In a notification issued by the Registrar General of Madras High Court dated 4th February, the Acting Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari has directed that the Principal Seat at Madras and the Madurai Bench should resume Hybrid mode of functioning from February 7. The notification comes in light of the declining number of Omicron variant/ Covid 19 cases in Tamil Nadu.

A similar notification has been issued with regards to the functioning of all subordinate courts in the State of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry.

Hearing of the cases may be on physical/ virtual/ hybrid mode provided that Covid-19 protocol norms are strictly adhered to. Entry of advocates and parties-in-person inside court premises will also be subject to COVID-19 norms including social distancing, wearing face masks etc.

The notification has also allowed the opening of Advocates' Associations/ Bar and Law Chambers subject to the same set of above-mentioned restrictions. However, a decision has been taken to keep the Libraries and Court Canteens closed till further orders. It is also seen that advocates, parties-in- person and litigants are expected to appear before the courts only after their Covid Vaccination.

On 2nd January, keeping in abeyance the previous notification for complete resumption of the physical hearing, Acting Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari had issued directions to follow the virtual mode, excluding both physical as well as hybrid modes of functioning till further orders.
