The Madras High Court on Thursday granted relief to a 27 years old kidney patient, who claimed that he is in great pain and the Authorization Committee (Transplantation) has been sitting on his request to permit surgical transplant.

Justice SM Subramaniam directed the Authorisation Committee (Transplantation) to scrutinise the documents of the petitioner and take appropropriate decisions on merits in accordance with law. The Committee was directed to communicate the decision on the same day at about 7:00 pm

The Petitioner is suffering from end-stage Renal Failure . He had to undergo dialysis thrice a week and due to the prolonged dialysis, he was suffering from heavy pain. The doctors had recommended surgical extraction and transplantation of new Kidney.

The second petitioner, who was not a relative of the first petitioner consented to be the donor. As a result, representation was made to the first and second respondent, KG Hospital and the Authorisation Committee respectively, to grant approval. Since the representation was considered yet, and considering the heavy pain of the petitioner and the urgency involved, the writ petition was filed.

The Additional Advocate General, on getting instructions from the committee on the same day, informed the court that the Committee meeting was scheduled to be held on 20.05.2022 and that the writ petitioner along with an attender can appear before the committee and produce all the relevant documents for consideration.

The court recorded the submission and made directions to the committee. The additional advocate general was directed to communicate the order to the respondents immediately.
