The Madras High Court has issued notices on a petition seeking insurance coverage of up to Rs. 25 lakhs for LPG deliverymen, in case of death due to corona virus infection.
The Petitioner, T. Sivakumar, has prayed that the Respondents should be directed to collect the name list of all deliverymen employed by various LPG distributing Agencies through online communication and take apposite steps in this direction.
Noting that there is an "imminent urgency" in the matter, a bench of Justice M. Sathyanarayanan and Justice M. Nirmal Kumar has issued notices to the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of Tamil Nadu, IOCL, Bharat Petroleum and other such organizations, returnable by May14.
Inter alia, the Petitioner has sought that the Government should ensure availability of Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) such as N95 safety masks and gloves for all LPG deliverymen.

The Petitioner has also prayed that the Government should be directed to issue a public notice, authorizing LPG deliverymen to move freely to and fro their workplace and during deliveries.
