    A division bench of the Madras High Court comprising of Dr. Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice R. Suresh Kumar has directed the Technical Committee headed by the State Health Secretary to consider treating COVID-19 affected patients with medicine known as Kabasura Kashayam, which is a part of Siddha Medical Treatment.

    The bench was hearing a plea filed by one PA Josseph who endorsed the abovementioned medicine as a "preventive vaccine" and also as a dose to boost the immunity of already affected persons.

    On being informed that a Technical Committee headed by the Health Secretary and comprising of experts in various fields was already under the process of considering representations for prescribing alternative medicines to people affected by the Coronavirus, the bench said,

    "we are not inclined to pass any further order in this PIL petition and we dispose of the same by directing the Technical Committee, headed by the Health Secretary to consider the representation made in this Public Interest Litigation Petition also with regard to treatment of COVID-19 patients by Kabasura Kashayam and take appropriate decision in this matter, in accordance with the Guidelines issued by the Central Government."

    Earlier this week, the same bench had also directed the Technical Committee to consider representations for treatment of Corona virus under Ayurveda/Unani/Homeopathy or Naturopathy methods, besides Allopathy.

    The Bench had additionally directed the Technical Committee "to consider all the concerned representations made in this regard to the State Government, for prevention and treatment of the said disease and also for the other measures like Alcoholic and Non-alcoholic (Nanolife) hand sanitizers and other types of sanitizers, soaps and mask of various types, which can be provided or supplied to the people at large, for meeting the said emergency of COVID-19".
