The Allahabad High Court today urged the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi to postpone the upcoming elections in view of the rising threat of Omiron. The Court also praised the efforts of PM Modi for taking up the campaign of providing Free Corona vaccination to the people of the country.

The Bench of Justice Shekhar Yadav, who was dealing with a bail order, also urged the Election Commission to immediately issue direction to stop political parties from organizing political rallies, meetings etc.

"...order the political parties to do their campaign and publicity not by mobilizing the crowd in the rally and meeting, but through the medium of Doordarshan, newspapers and if possible, postpone the elections scheduled to be held in February for a month or two because if life would remain, then election rallies, meetings will continue to happen."

Essentially, the Court was dealing with a bail plea when it observed that about four hundred cases are listed before the court apart from the regular cases and due to which, a large number of advocates are present.

Further, the Court, in its order noted that no social distancing norms are being followed by the Advocates and rather, they are all standing close to each other even when Corona's new variant Omicron has arrived in the Country and its Patients are increasing day by day.

In view of this, the Court also urged the Allahabad High Court's Registrar General to make rules in this regard.

"The (Uttar Pradesh) Gram Panchayat and the Bengal Elections became the reason why people contracted COVID in large numbers and due to which, many people died,"  the Allahabad High Court said.
