The Kerala High Court on Monday instructed the Government Pleader to look into whether by keeping birds as pets, the petitioner had violated any provision of law. The GP has been directed to seek instructions on this aspect.
"The learned Government Pleader shall get instructions and report whether the petitioner has been violating any provision of law by keeping birds as pets," the order stated.
The direction was made by Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V while hearing one Muthukkutti K., complaining that that he and his family members are being subjected to harassment by the Circle Inspector for keeping pet birds in their residence.
On that ground, a petition was filed seeking a direction to the respondents not to harass him demanding the removal of his pet birds from their terrace.
The Court thus directed that the Station House Officer and the Circle Inspector to refrain from insisting the petitioner to remove his pet birds from the terrace of his building for the time being. The matter has been listed next week for further consideration.
Advocate Nemom Chandra Babu appeared for the petitioner.
The police had initiated action against the petitioner based on complaints received from the local residents in the petitioner's neighbourhood.
