Kerala High Court Seeks Details Of Disciplinary Proceedings Against Cops Accused Of Assaulting Lawyer

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the state police chief to produce the details of complaints received against two police officers and also to inform if there are any disciplinary proceedings pending against them.

A single bench of Justice N Nagaresh passed this order while hearing a writ petition filed by Advocate C S Hemalal, who alleged that he was assaulted by two police officers, Laisad Mohammad and P Sreekumar over a car parking dispute.

During proceedings in the High Court on Monday, Counsel for Advocate Hemalal called upon the State to place on record the cases pending against Laisad and P Sreekumar.

Submitting that there were a large number of cases pending against the officers, he asserted that his client was manhandled and described the treatment as 'inhuman'.

Responding to the submission, the Senior Government Pleader, Suman Chakravarthy submitted that reports can be sought from the first respondent, the State Police Chief.

At this, Justice Nagaresh queried the Senior Government Pleader as to whether there was any inquiry conducted against the police officers.
