The Kerala High Court on Friday extended by another two weeks the life of all interim orders passed by it, that were due to expire the coming Monday.

A full bench of Chief Justice S Manikumar, Justice C.T Ravikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly considered that it is pertinent to extend these orders amidst the continuing lockdown restrictions in the State. Accordingly, their validity has been extended till 9th August 2021.

The situation will next be reviewed on 6th August 2021.

The State has been witnessing a surge in Covid positive cases and has been functioning with lockdown restrictions since May 2021. It had thus extended the life of interim orders till 26th July. Previously, they were extended till June 29th. Before this, they were extended till June 15th by the Court.

Kerala has been witnessing a tremendous surge in the Covid-19 positive cases as of late. This has obstructed the normal proceedings of the Court and has slowed down the procedures of trial. The frequent extension of interim orders comes as a result of the same.
