RSS Worker's Murder: Certain Aspects Require CBI Probe, Says Kerala High Court

The Kerala High Court on Monday observed that certain aspects in the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker Sanjith, who was hacked to death in November last year, need to be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Justice K. Haripal noted that some of the accused in the case had hideouts outside the state which warranted the interference by CBI.  

'Why do you (police) want to hurry? Let the CBI enquire, what is your problem? There were hideouts outside the State's boundaries. I am of the view that there are certain aspects here which require investigation by the CBI.'  

The Court added that since the State Police Chief had also raised concerns about the case, the CBI may have to investigate.

The observations came in a plea filed by the RSS worker's wife seeking to hand over the case to CBI.

However, while opposing the plea, the State submitted that the final report in the case was almost ready and likely to be filed by February 10.

The State submitted that only one of the 18 accused were yet to be arrested. It was added that the whereabouts of this accused was ascertained and that he would be arrested soon.

The matter has been listed for hearing on Wednesday. 

Meanwhile, Advocate P. Martin Jose appearing for the petitioner urged that the State be asked to place a copy of the final report before the court so that the wife can modify her plea accordingly.

Sanjith was hacked to death in broad daylight on November 15 last year while he was taking his wife to her workplace. Police had soon arrested several persons, including an officer bearer of the Popular Front of India (PFI), in the case.
