    A total of 35,84,430 cases were settled at the National Lok Adalat held on September 14 in Karnataka with settlement worth around Rs 2,402 crore.

    A press note issued by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority stated that a total of 1,008 benches were constituted, total 2,00,083 pending cases were disposed and a total of 33,84,347 pre-litigation cases came to be disposed. A total of 1,022 cases which were pending for over five years, 277 cases pending for over 10 years and 144 cases pending for over 15 years were disposed of.

    Among the cases disposed of at Bengaluru Urban District, included a case of cheque bounce between “Reliance Home Finance Ltd., Vs. Sycon Constructions Pvt Ltd.,” on the file of Small Causes Court (SCCH22) which was settled for Rs 20 Crore.

    Similarly, a Motor Vehicle Accident case between “Aparna Ramakrishna V/s. Royal Sundaram”, pending on the file of the Small Causes Court was settled for Rs. 3 Crore 75 Lakhs. A criminal case for the offence punishable under Section 379 of IPC between “Nanjappa V/s. Akram”, pending for over 26-years on the file of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (31st ACMM) was also settled.

    Further the authority vide its letter dated 09.08.2024, had requested the Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka to extend the benefit of Section 103 and 105 of Karnataka Municipalities Act in giving rebate for payment of property tax for the purpose of Lok Adalat.

    Accordingly, the Government had extended the benefit and in 5,95,892 (cases) tax-payers benefited and settlement amount to the tune of Rs.653 Crores.

    Chief Justice N.V. Anjaria, who is also the Patron-in-Chief of KSLSA, Justice V. Kameswar Rao, Executive Chairman of KSLSA and Justice Sreenivas Harish Kumar, of Karnataka & Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee, appreciated the efforts put in by the stakeholders for the success of the Lok Adalat.

    They expressed their gratitude for the cooperation extended by the Judicial Officers, Advocates, litigant public, insurance company officials, bank officials, Government Officials and also press and media. The fourth National Lok Adalat of the year 2024 is scheduled on 14.12.2024.
