Justice Bhimanagouda Sanganagouda Patil, Former Judge Of HC, Appointed As Lokayukta Of Karnataka: State Govt Informs High Court

A division bench of Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and Justice Ashok S Kinagi was informed about the notification dated June 14, issued by the government, wherein the Governor has appointed the Lokayukta for the State of Karnataka. Following which the bench dismissed the petition filed by Advocate UMAPATHI. S.

It said,

"Learned AGA appearing for the respondents informs that the post of Lokayukta has been filled and appointment has been made to the said post. In view of this, the writ petition becomes infructuous."

The petitioner had sought directions to the state government to initiate and finalise the process of appointment of one vacant Lokayukta Post. The notification issued says the recommendation to the Governor for appointment of Lokayukta was made after consulting the Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka, the Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council, the Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly and the Leaders of Opposition in both the houses of Karnataka State Legislature.

Accordingly the court dismissed the petition as having become infructuous.
