The Karnataka High Court has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Haveri district to expeditiously take action on the representation made to it about alleged illegal slaughter houses being operational in the district without any license.
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice S Vishwajith Shetty disposed of a public interest litigation filed by one Somshekhar Shankarappa Hurukadli. It was claimed by the petitioner that he has submitted representations on three occasions seeking a direction to the respondents to take action against illegal slaughter houses. However, the representations failed to evoke any response.
The government advocates submitted that suitable action in accordance with law shall be taken.
Following which the court said, "In view of the aforesaid submissions and in the facts of the case, the petition is disposed of with a direction to the Deputy Commissioner, Haveri District to take action on the representations submitted by the petitioner expeditiously, in accordance with law."
