The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday while adjourning the hearing on a suo-moto criminal contempt petition filed against newspaper, Deccan Herald and three other local TV news channels, for publishing flase news titled "Rupees 9 crores was seized from the residence of a City Civil Court (Bengaluru) Judge in a raid by the "vigilance wing of the Karnataka High Court," suggested them to come out with measures to mitigate the offence.

A division bench of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Hemant Chandangoudar said "It is not compelling the accused but do something which mitigate the offence." On the last hearing the court had orally suggested that substantial amount not limited to six figure amount be deposited with the state government so that it can be used for creating judicial infrastructure.

The court once again refused to accept the unconditional apology tendered by the accused and said that on the next hearing date "We will not give anymore suggestions, we will go through the affidavits and mitigating circumstances and if we are satisfied we will accept the apology or hear the learned Advocate General and proceed with the case."

The court once again retireated that the news report is against the foundation of the institution and it was not a simple thing. It also called upon the accused to inform what disciplinary action has been taken afainst the offenders and is there any mechanism in place to prevent such misreportings from happening in the future. It said "We do not wish to send you to jail but what want you to rectify the issue and put in place safeguards. Delivering judgements is quiet easy but rectifying the system is difficult."

The court will hear the case on January 24.
