A letter petition has been moved before the Jharkhand High Court, urging it to take suo moto cognizance of alleged irregularities and corruption in the minority scholarship scheme at pre-metric level in the State.

The same is listed for admission hearing on November 27, 2020.

The letter has been penned by Advocate Md Shadab Ansari in light of an investigative report published by the Indian Express, alleging large scale corruption and siphoning of Minority Scholarship fund, sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

Ansari has alleged that Aadhaar card authentication is being misused to make payments under the scheme, to such persons, who are not even students. It is further alleged that many government agencies/officials (at state level as well as district level), school authorities, middleman, bank officials etc. are involved in such illegal activities.

    He wrote,

"Due to the above corruption many deserving poor students did not get the benefit of the scholarship, whereas many non-eligible persons have got the scholarship amount.

It is therefore, requested that your Lordship may take suo-motto cognizance of above noted issue and direct the registry to lodge a PIL so that the case may be monitored."

Ansari has further requested the High Court to direct the DGP, Jharkhand to constitute a SIT consisting of senior officers, so as to investigate, prosecute and ensure that all the persons involved in this corruption are brought to books.
