In modification of its previous order for cancellation of Summer Vacation 2020 that is scheduled between May 18, 2020 and June 6, 2020, the Jharkhand High Court has intimated that instead of being cancelled, the summer vacation shall stand postponed sine-die subject to any further decision taken by the Full Court.
Further, as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of Corona virus, the court has permitted Advocates appearing before the High Court as well as before the subordinate courts in the state, to wear "plain white-shirt/white shalvar-kameez/ white saree, with a plain white neck band" during virtual hearings, till further orders. The requirement of wearing gowns and coats has been dispensed with.
To effectuate the same, the High Court has suspended the operation of Rule 228 of the High Court of Jharkhand Rules, 2001 and Rule 470 of the Civil Court Rules of the High Court of Jharkhand, that stipulate the dress code to be followed by the Advocates, with immediate effect until further order.
On May 14, the Bar Council of India (BCI) has issued an Administrative Order to relax lawyer's dress code and dispense with Gown and robes for the time being. Earlier, the Supreme Court had also relaxed the dress code for Advocates appearing before it through video conferencing.
