Jantar Mantar Sloganeering Case: Delhi Court Remands Pinky Chaudhary To 14 Days Judicial Custody

A Delhi Court has remanded Hindu Raksha Dal Chief Bhupinder Tomar alias Pinky Chaudhary to 14 days judicial custody in the case concerning alleged inflammatory and anti-Muslim sloganeering at Jantar Mantar.

Chaudhary had surrendered before the Delhi Police on Tuesday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Prayank Nayak allowed police's application seeking 14 days judicial custody remand of Chaudhary.

"Considering the seriousness of allegations, the application is allowed. Accused is remanded to Judicial Custody for 14 days," the Court ordered.

It added that Chaudhary will be produced before the concerned Court on September 16, on expiry of his custody.

Chaudhary's anticipatory bail plea was denied earlier after the Sessions Court observed that "We are not a Taliban State. Rule of law is sacrosanct governing principle in our plural and multi cultural society."

Furthermore it had said: "While the whole of India is celebrating AZADI KA AMRUT MAHOTSAV (Independence Day) there are some minds still chained with intolerant and self centric, beliefs. The complicity of the applicant/accused in the alleged case crime is prima facie apparent from the material placed before the court."

Similarly, a Court had last week denied bail to Preet Singh, co accused in the matter after observing that he is clearly seen actively participating in the incendiary speeches along with other associates.

A Court had however granted bail to former Delhi BJP Spokesperson and Supreme Court lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay, who was arrested and remanded to two days judicial custody in the matter.

Videos of mob at the gathering shouting slogans openly calling for the killing of Muslims had emerged on Sunday. Lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay, who has now been granted bail by the Court, claimed that the slogans were raised after the meeting organized by him was over. He had organized a meeting calling for the repeal of "colonial-era laws".
