Jammu & Kashmir Government Sanctions Rs. 1 Crore As Financial Assistance For Advocates During Covid-19

The amount has been sanctioned in favour of Advocates working in different courts of UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

Additional Secretary to Government of J&K issued a communication to the Register General of the High Court along with a cheque of the said amount. A Bench of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey took the same on record on Tuesday.

"Today, Mr. Sajad Ashraf, learned GA, Assisting Counsel of Mr. D.C. Raina, learned Advocate General, has produced a communication bearing No. LAW-Jud/41/2021-10 dated 24.06.2021, addressed to Registrar General, J&K, High Court, Srinagar, by Additional Secretary to Government, intimating that the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor, J&K, has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 1.00 Crore as financial assistance in favour of Advocates working in different courts of UT of Jammu and Kashmir out of Relief Fund. The cheque bearing No. 652739 is enclosed with the communication. Copy of the communication along with cheque is taken on record," the order stated.

The Bench has also directed the Registrar General to expedite the matter for release of amount in favour of the deserving lawyers, who have already applied, so as to ensure their timely help and assistance.

The development comes in a plea filed by one M. Abubakar Pandit who prayed that UT of J&K be directed to grant immediate financial assistance to the tune of Rs 25,000/- to the advocates who are in actual practice before the High Court and District Court within the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, the High Court directed the UT Administration to come up with a clear stand on the release of financial aid to the lawyers affected by the ongoing corona lockdown.
