INX Media : P Chidambaram Remanded To Judicial Custody In ED Case Till Nov 13

The Special CBI Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar on Wednesday sent former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram to judicial custody till November 13 in ED matter against him in INX Media case.

During the proceedings, both the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal told the court that they don't wish to reiterate the arguments they made in the last hearing.

SG also placed Chidambaram's recent medical report before the Special Judge. Chidambaram was recently admitted to AIIMS as he had complained about acute stomach pain.

Chidambaram had already spent 14 days in ED's custody. He has also moved Delhi High Court seeking interim bail till November 4 on medical grounds.

The CBI had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in the clearance granted by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during Chidambaram's tenure as the finance minister.

The Enforcement Directorate subsequently had lodged a money laundering case in this regard in 2017.

The Supreme Court granted him bail last week in the case registered by CBI in relation to corruption allegations in INX Media deal. He was arrested on August 21.
