A PIL has been filed before the Allahabad High Court, seeking to stay the broadcast of Hindi web series 'Virgin Bhaskar Season 2', currently streaming on subscription-based OTT platforms— Alt Balaji and Zee5.
The plea has been filed by a practicing Advocate at the Lucknow Bench, Krishan Kanhya Pal, alleging that the series is defamatory of Devi/ Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, Sardar of the Maratha Empire in 1700s.
Allegedly, the series depicts certain scandalous scenes occurring at the hostel which is named after the hereditary noble, Devi Holkar.
This, the Petitioner contends, has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community as well as people belonging to the shepherd community.
He had therefore prayed that broadcast of the show be stayed and the show directors/ channel owners be directed to remove the objectionable content therefrom.
BJP MP Dr. Vikas Mahatme also took to Twitter to criticize the series for dishonouring Devi Holkar. He had called for an agitation to protest the streaming of such content, following which ALT Balaji Production tendered a public apology on Instagram and informed that the impugned scene has been removed.
