Illegal Skinning And Carcass Disposal Causing Health Hazards: PIL In Gujarat High Court, Notice Issued

The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday issued notice on a PIL to stop illegal skinning and carcass disposal in Gandhinagar's Pethapur area. State counsel assured the Court that it will submit area Collector's report in the matter by March 2.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Sonia Gokani and Justice Sandeep N. Bhatt also sought to know what steps were taken the District Magistrate's office on repeated representations purportedly made by the petitioner, a local agriculturalist, since the year 2018.

"Let on the returnable date, the District Magistrate or a Sub-Divisional Magistrate or the Executive Magistrate as the case may be, report to this Court as to what steps have been taken in wake of the repeated applications moved by the petitioners seeking to remove the nuisance in all these years."

 The petitioner approached the Court under Article 226 of the Constitution stating that the inaction to stop illegal skinning and carcass disposal on the part of the respondent authority is causing health hazards for residents and causing serious harm to the environment.
