Government Has No Plans To Introduce An Indian Legislative Service: Centre In Loksabha

The Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday informed Loksabha that the Government has no plan to introduce an Indian Legislative Service.

Law Minister was responding to a query raised by Loksabha MP Lorho S. Pfoze as to whether Government is planning to create an Indian Legislative Service common to both the Union and States.

Apart from this MP Pfoze raised the following three queries:

(a) whether the Government has felt the need for robust legislative institutions in India from local to national level having qualified and well-trained staff and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government is planning to introduce and pass a resolution to create an Indian Legislative Service common to both the Union and the States; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

In response to these queries, the Union Law Minister said in a written reply:

"At present, no such proposal is under consideration of the Union Government."

It may be noted that at present there is no common public recruiting and training agency at the national and states level to recruit staff/officials for legislative bodies in India like the panchayat, block panchayat, Zila parishad, municipal corporations, State legislatures and Parliament.
