The Kerala High Court on Friday directed the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) to ensure that all its students, who have tested Covid positive, are enabled to write their semester exams as per the standard health guidelines issued by various authorities.

A Single Bench of Justice Devan Ramachandran has directed the University to ensure that the Petitioner, or any other student who is suffering from Covid-19 infection, are given separate rooms to write their semester examination.

"I order this writ petition directing the respondents to ensure that the petitioner is able to write the examinations in a separate room.

It is made clear that not only the petitioner but in the case of all COVID-19 patients, the College shall ensure that the health guidelines and protocols as ordered by the District Administration and Health Authorities are followed implicitly and that the question papers are distributed and the answer sheets collected back in terms of the norms issued by the first respondent University," the order states.

The Court was hearing a writ petition filed by a 23-years old final year student of BDS programme at the University's MES Dental College at Palachola, Fathimasha, who had tested Covid-positive.

She had sought permission to appear in the final year examination commencing from November 23, 2020 and scheduled to conclude on November 30, 2020, in a separate exam hall.

Based on the submissions made by the Respondent-University that it is willing to make sure that the petitioner is able to write the examinations in a separate room, the Court passed a general direction to ensure that all similarly situated students are given this benefit.
