Resigning from the post of the Additional Advocate General of Punjab, Senior Advocate Mukesh Berry told the Punjab Government that it shouldn't ridicule and diminish the status and dignity of the Senior Advocates of this High Court.
This development comes in the wake of acceptance of the resignation of Punjab's Advocate General APS Deol yesterday by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Charanjit Singh Channi.

In his resignation letter, addressed to the Principal Secretary to Govt. of Punjab, Department of Home Affairs, Berry has said thus:
"Without commenting upon the decision of the Punjab Government in accepting the resignation of Sh. A.P.S. Deol, Advocate General Punjab a Senior Lawyer of the High Court, I hereby submit my resignation from the post of Additional Advocate General, Punjab which would be deemed to be accepted from the date of its submission i.e. today. Having remained elected representative of the Advocates as Member of the Bar Council of Pb. & Hr., Chd. for 27 years and also Chairman of the same and in continuous service as Law Officer in the office of Advocate General Punjab for 28 years, I would request the Government not to ridicule and diminish the status and dignity of the Senior Advocates of this High Court."
Advocate-General for Punjab, Amar Preet Singh Deol had resigned from his post on November 1, however, his resignation was accepted only yesterday. Senior advocate Deol was appointed as the AG for Punjab in September 2021.
Mr. Deol was appointed as the AG for Punjab after Senior Advocate, Atul Nanda had resigned from the post of AG on September 18, soon after former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh had submitted his registration to the Governor.
Senior Advocate Nanda had cited constitutional convention and had highlighted that his appointment was co-terminus with the chief minister's appointment.
On November 6, Deol had issued a press statement saying that Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu was obstructing the functioning of the office of the Advocate General.
In the press statement, Sidhu had been accused of trying to derail the 'earnest efforts' of the State Government to ensure justice in the "Drugs matter" and the "Sacrilege Cases".
AG Deol had also alleged that Sidhu was politicizing the constitutional office of the Advocate-General of Punjab for his own political gains.
