"Ensure Safety And Security Of Umar Khalid And Others"; Delhi Court Directs Tihar Jail Superintendent

A Delhi Court on Wednesday directed the Tihar Jail Suprintendent and police personnel to ensure safety and security of Umar Khalid and other co accused persons while sending and receiving them back to Jail from the Court including the transit for the purpose of his physical production tomorrow in the Delhi riots larger conspiracy hearing.

The direction came from Additional Sessions Judge Naveen Gupta on the urgent application moved by Umar Khalid seeking directions on safeguarding his security in the course of proceedings in the case tomorrow.

It was submitted by Advocate Rakshanda Deka, counsel for Khalid, that since the Delhi High Court has vacated the stay in the larger conspiracy case, Khalid's physical presence in the matter is required for the hearing tomorrow i.e. 25th March 2021.

In view of this, the following directions were issued by the Court:

i) The concerned Superintendent, Tihar Jail is directed to ensure the said safety and security aspect of the applicant when the applicant is sent and received back from the Court including the transit for the purpose of physical production of the accused on 25.03.2021.

ii) The Incharge, Lock¬up, Karkardooma Court as well as the Incharge, Police Post, Karkardooma Courts, Delhi alongwith SHO, P.S. Farsh Bazar shall also to ensure the safety and security aspect of applicant/accused when the applicant is produced in the court from Lockup. Both shall coordinate with each other.

"Considering the nature of the case, let necessary safety and security arrangements be made by the Jail Superintendent and the Police Personnel as regards other co-accused persons who will also be physically produced before the court tomorrow i.e. 25.03.2021." the Court ordered at the outset.
