The Delhi High Court on Friday granted police protection to a Hindu Girl who alleged that certain media houses are harassing her by airing programmes against her, for wanting to convert to Islam.
Justice Subramonium Prasad directed SHO, Jamia Nagar to ensure that adequate police protection is given to the girl till the next date of hearing i.e. 26th July.
Akshita Sharma had knocked the doors of the High Court seeking adequate protection from media houses, as well as her family members who are said to be threatening her with dire consequences. It was her case that she is a major and she was in search of a social organisation which could provide her legal assistance to change her religion to Islam.
She submitted before the Court that she found an organisation on the internet, namely, Islam Dawah Centre, that asked her to fill an application form for the said purpose. It was further stated that although the Petitioner filled the application form, she could not proceed ahead due to high prices demanded by the organization.
Subsequently, certain media houses started harassing her by airing certain programmes against her.
While issuing notice in the plea, the Court ordered thus:
"The petitioner has joined the proceedings through video-conferencing. She is directed to approach the SHO Police Station Jamia Nagar by 5:00 p.m. on 03.07.2021 who shall ensure adequate police protection is given to her till the next date of hearing."
The Court also directed the Delhi Government to file a status report in the matter. The matter will now be heard on July 26.
