Plea Seeking Ex Gratia Amount To All Domestic Helps, Free Ration Without Any ID: Delhi High Court Seeks Delhi Govt's Response

The Delhi High Court on Monday sought response of the Delhi Government in plea seeking ex gratia amount of Rs. 10, 000 to all persons working as domestic helps in the national capital.
A single bench comprising of Justice Rekha Palli issued notice in the plea filed by five women working as domestic helps in Delhi seeking directions from the respondent authorities in the interest of 471 similarly situated persons working as domestic helps in various parts of the city.
The plea also seeks direction to ensure that all these persons are granted free ration without requiring the production of their Ration Card, Aadhaar Card or any other ID card.
The plea makes Government of NCT of Delhi through its Chief Secretary and Labour Commissioner, GNCTD as respondents in the matter.
During the course of hearing on Monday, it was submitted on behalf of the Delhi Government that a notification dated 27th May 2021 has already been issued directing the distribution of non PDS ration to all needy persons including unorganised workers, migrant workers, building constructions workers, domestic helps etc.
It was also submitted that the same is being done through various schools of Directorate of Education and Municipal Authorities without insisting on the production of a ration card or any other ID proof.
While taking the aforesaid statement on record, the Court issued notice in the matter and ordered thus:
"Issue notice. Learned counsel for the respondent accepts notice. He prays for and is granted 4 weeks' time to file a counter affidavit. Rejoinder thereto, if any, be filed within two weeks thereafter."
The matter will now be listed on 30th July 2021.
