Delhi High Court will hear on Monday a plea seeking directions to be given to the central government to constitute a committee for rehabilitation of the victims of false accusations of rape.
The plea, moved by a police officer, also demands a CBI inquiry in a rape case alleged against the said officer. He says that he has been falsely accused, due to which, his family and him has been subjected to continuous torture and harassment.
The Petitioner submits that it has become an organised crime to falsely accuse people of rape and then extort money out of them. Further, due to such false accusations, Delhi has been touted as 'Rape Capital' which subsequently tarnishes the image of both India and the Indians, abroad.
It is also argued that laws and rules should not be used as an instrument of oppression or to destroy the fundamental rights of an innocent person.
Hoping to make Delhi a place free from false rape accusations, the petition also tends to highlight that people who are falsely accused of rape are stigmatised in the society, due to which they face constant harassment and some of them even up committing suicides.
It goes on to submit that in many cases, the accusation of rape has become a tool for collecting ransom, and the same should be effectively controlled
It further goes on to state that due to delay in the administration of justice, and the stigma attached with the heinous crimes, many 'innocent accused' are forced to settle outside of the court, resulting in mushrooming growth of false cases.
