Zafar, an Undertrial Prisoner, was arrested in 2018 for allegedly being a member of Islamic State on the allegations that he was involved in planning suicide attacks and serial blasts by targeting politicians and other officials in Delhi and other areas.

Special NIA Judge Praveen Singh sought the response after Zafar approached the Court earlier this week seeking directions to be passed on the Jail Superintendent in order to look into the matter.

Moved by Advocate MS Khan, the plea alleged that Zafar, currently lodge in Central Jail Tihar was "beaten up and forced to chant religious slogans of another religion by his inmates."

"That this incident was disclosed by the applicant/accused to his father telephonically from Tihar Jail." The plea read.
