In a significant stride towards increased transparency and accountability, Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh launched the RTI Online Web Portal dedicated to the Right to Information (RTI) for the High Court of Chhattisgarh and District Judiciary of the state.
The web portal was launched last week to mark a new era in citizen empowerment through digitized access to information. In his address at the launch, Chief Justice Sinha emphasized the critical role that access to information plays in empowering citizens to engage meaningfully in governance.
Chief Justice Sinha highlighted the transformative impact of the Right to Information Act, 2005, describing it as a landmark legislation that equips citizens with a legal right to access information held by public authorities. He added that the newly launched RTI Online Web Portal is poised to revolutionize the interaction between citizens and public authorities.
The portal promises to simplify and streamline the RTI process, offering features such as online filing. This allows citizens to submit RTI applications directly through the platform, eliminating the need for physical visits to offices. Real-time tracking of the application status ensures that users are informed, promoting transparency and accountability.
Additionally, the portal facilitates online payment of fees, expediting the processing of RTI applications.
During his address, Chief Justice Sinha expressed his belief that this innovative digital initiative will empower citizens to hold public officials accountable, foster good governance, and nurture a more transparent and responsive administration.
He said the portal's provision of a centralized platform for RTI processes will enhance citizen engagement and ensure that public authorities remain answerable to the people they serve.
This launch represents a pivotal moment in the journey towards a more informed and participative populace, as the Chhattisgarh judiciary embraces the transformative power of technology to fortify the tenets of democracy.
