Centre Decides To Block 43 More Mobile Apps Citing Security Concerns

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Tuesday blocked 43 mobile apps, mostly Chinese, citing threat to security of state.
The Ministry has decided to invoked powers under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 to block these apps, in view of the comprehensive reports received from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, Ministry of Home Affairs.
It is stated that the Government has inputs that these apps are being used for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.

In a press note issued to this effect, the IT Ministry said,
"Government is committed to protect the interests of citizens and sovereignty and integrity of India on all fronts and it shall take all possible steps to ensure that."
Earlier on 29 June, 2020 the Government of India had blocked access to 59 mobile apps, including TikTok, camscanner etc. and on 24 September, 2020 118 more apps were banned (including PubG) under section 69A of the Information Technology Act.
