Centre Appoints Ex-IFS Officer YK Sinha As New Chief Central Information Commissioner

He was sworn in as an Information Commissioner in the CIC on January 1, 2019. Prior to this, he has served as a High Commissioner of India to the UK and Sri Lanka. He was also the Ambassador of India to Venezuela and a Minister at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

The office of CIC has remained vacant since August 27, 2020, with retirement of Mr. Bimal Julka.

Recently, an application for urgent hearing was filed in the Supreme Court, seeking timely and transparent appointment of Information Commissioners in the Central Information Commission under the Right to Information Act, 2005.
