Under the auspices of the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court of India and NALSA, a comprehensive 40-hour Mediation Training was conducted for Judicial Officers of the District Judiciary in Bihar. Hosted by the Bihar State Legal Services Authority (BSLSA), the training took place at the Bihar Judicial Academy in Patna from May 6th to May 10th, 2024.
Led by the guidance of Justice K. Vinod Chandran, Chief Justice of the Patna High Court and Patron-in-Chief of BSLSA, along with Justice Ashutosh Kumar, JAD-1 of the Patna High Court and Executive Chairman of BSLSA, the initiative aimed to foster the amicable resolution of pending disputes within the Civil Courts of Bihar.
The MCPC, renowned for its successful court-integrated mediation process since 2005, in conjunction with the Patna High Court Mediation Committee, approved the 40-hour training program commencing on May 6th and concluding on May 10th, 2024.
Ms. Archana Mishra and Ms. Brindha Nandakumar, esteemed Senior Trainers, were nominated by MCPC to lead the sessions. During the training, various mediation techniques and tools were elucidated, focusing on exploring settlement possibilities between disputing parties.
Emphasizing the significance of Conflict Resolution techniques, participants were educated on active listening, communication skills, negotiations, and exploring options through both theoretical concepts and role-play simulations. The importance of overcoming impasses in mediation processes was also underscored.
Furthermore, the training delved into the roles and duties of Mediators, along with the precautions they should adopt during mediation proceedings to ensure fairness and efficacy.
The program culminated with the distribution of certificates to the participants. Conducted in a physical and interactive mode, the sessions facilitated robust discussions wherein both participants and trainers exchanged views and addressed queries concerning the mediation process and its implementation.
The initiative reflects a concerted effort towards enhancing the capacity of Judicial Officers in Bihar to effectively engage in mediation processes, thereby promoting swifter and more amicable resolutions within the civil justice system.
