Bihar State Legal Services Authority (BSLSA) recently concluded a comprehensive training program aimed at promoting the amicable resolution of pending disputes in the Civil Courts of Bihar.
Organized under the auspices of the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court of India and the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the 40-hour Mediation Training was conducted from April 22nd to April 26th, 2024, at the Bihar Judicial Academy in Patna.
Under the guidance of Justice K. Vinod Chandran, Chief Justice of the Patna High Court and Patron-in-Chief of BSLSA, along with Justice Ashutosh Kumar, JAD-1 of the Patna High Court and Executive Chairman of BSLSA, the training program focused on enhancing the skills of advocates practicing in the Civil Courts of Bihar in the realm of mediation.
The MCPC, renowned for its successful court-integrated mediation process since 2005, and the Patna High Court Mediation Committee approved the training program, which featured senior trainers Mr. K.K. Makhija and Mrs. Nagina Jain.
During the five-day training, participants were acquainted with the techniques and tools of mediation aimed at facilitating settlements between disputing parties. Emphasis was placed on crucial aspects of conflict resolution, including active listening, communication skills, negotiations, exploring options, and overcoming impasses, through both conceptual discussions and role-playing exercises.
Furthermore, the role and responsibilities of a mediator, along with the precautions to be taken during mediation proceedings, were elucidated to the attendees.
The interactive nature of the training fostered an environment conducive to learning, enabling participants and trainers to exchange views and address queries regarding the mediation process and its implementation.
The training program culminated with the distribution of certificates to the participants by Shilpee Soniraj, Member Secretary of BSLSA, on April 26th, 2024, marking the successful completion of the initiative aimed at enhancing the capacity of advocates in facilitating peaceful resolutions of disputes within the legal framework of Bihar's Civil Courts.
