A court in Bengaluru on Monday remanded suspended Janata Dal (S) leader Prajwal Revanna to judicial custody till June 24, in connection with sexual assault case.

The 42nd Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge passed the order after the SIT which is probing the case did not seek further custody of Prajwal for investigation.

The SIT had arrested Prajwal at the Bengaluru Airport on his arrival from Germany on Thursday (May 30) in the wee hours. He has been arrested in Crime No.107/2024, registered with the Holenarasipura Town Police Station.

The court had on the next day remanded him to custody till June 6. Following which his custody was extended till today.

Before the Lok Sabha elections on April 26, videos went viral showing women being sexually assaulted, allegedly by Prajwal. After casting his vote he had moved out of India.

After the Karnataka State Commission for Women chief wrote to the State government seeking action in the matter, a special investigation team was formed which is probing the case.

Earlier, the police had arrested his father and Holenarasipura MLA HD Revanna on charges of kidnapping a woman. Later, he was released on bail. The SIT has challenged the bail order before the High Court which is pending. Prajwal's mother Bhavani Revanna was recently granted interim anticipatory bail in the same case by the High Court.
