The Allahabad High Court today issued a notice to the Awadh Bar Association's Elder's committee and the returning officer on a plea filed challenging the result of the recently concluded Bar Elections that was held on September 25.

The Bench of Justice Rajan Roy and Justice Suresh Kumar Gupta was hearing the plea filed by Advocate Anand Mani Tripathi, who was himself contesting for the post of 'President' and lost the elections by a single vote.

Issuing the notice, the matter has now been listed for hearing on October 22.

Tripathi had earlier made a representation before the Association seeking recounting of the votes, however, the same was not accepted by the Associaton and therefore, he has now moved the High Court assailing the results of the election.

It may be noted that the 2021 Awadh Bar Elections has a somewhat checkered history. Earlier, on August 16, the Allahabad High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the unruly behavior of the lawyers during the election of Awadh Bar Association which was scheduled for August 14.

Emphasizing that when Advocates indulge themselves in unruly, indecent and undemocratic behaviour, it poorly reflects on image of the Institution, the Allahabad High Court had, on August 24, delivered its Judgment in the suo motu case relating to the Election of Awadh Bar Association and had fixed the date of the elections on September 25.

Canceling the entire election process which was held, amid the ruckus, on August 14, the bench of Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh had also framed guidelines for conducting the election on September 25.
Thereafter, modifying its earlier order (dated August 24) in the suo motu case relating to the Election, the Allahabad High Court had, on August 27, relaxed the criteria determining 'regular practitioner' of this Court (for the purpose of contesting the election or casting his/her vote).
