    The Allahabad High Court on Thursday sought an update from the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development regarding their policy for providing nutritional food to the children and nursing and lactating mothers amid the Covid crisis, in terms of the Supreme Court order.

    A Division Bench comprised of Justices Pankaj Kumar Jaiswal and Karunesh Singh Pawar has asked the Government to file a written report regarding the policy in pursuance of the order passed by the Apex Court in In Re : Regarding Closure Of Mid-Day Meal Scheme.

    On March 18, 2020, a three-Judge bench of the Supreme Court had taken suo moto cognizance non-supply of nutritional food to the above class of citizens. It had observed that all the States should come out with a uniform policy so as to ensure, that while preventing spread of COVID-19, the schemes for providing nutritional food to the children and nursing and lactating mothers are not adversely affected.

    The High Court has now seeks the steps taken by the Government in this regard, in a PIL filed by Arun Gramudyog Sansthan.

    The Kanpur based society had approached the High Court through Advocate Mudit Agarwal, seeking implementation of the SC order and framing of a uniform policy. Notices have been issued to all the Respondents and the matter is now listed for hearing on August 7, 2020.
