Looking beyond the disciplinary measures for the court staff, the District & Sessions Judge (South East District) has come up with several welfare measures like de-stress rooms and benevolent fund for the staff posted in his district for “effective administration and to inculcate a sense of belongingness” in them.
District & Sessions Judge (South-East) at the Saket Courts Complex, Girish Kathpalia recently called a meeting with the administrative and accounts officers and other senior judicial officers to mull over suggestions for welfare of the staff in his district.
While the members in the meeting re-emphasised the need to adhere to strict discipline of punctuality and dress code, they also shared concern for the welfare of the staff.
In what could be a first in the district courts in Delhi, Mr Kathpalia directed for examining the idea of creating de-stress rooms for the officials posted in south-east district.
He also directed the Accounts officer to examine the financial and procedural aspects as regards creation of a “no profit-no loss” canteen and “benevolent fund for the officials posted in south-east district in order to meet any unfortunate exigency.
Mr Kathpalia called for examination of scope, feasibility, precedents and procedural requirements regarding grant of overtime allowance to the officials.
A court staff posted at Saket court, on the condition of anonymity said, "we are glad that judicial officers are showing concern for our welfare".
The meeting also mulled creation of creche for officials posted in south-east district as some of the members in the meeting were of the view that after creation of creche, requirement of child care leave would reduce.
The District and Sessions Judge(South-East) also ordered that process of installation of tea/ coffee machines in the pantries for use of officials of the district be initiated immediately.
He further invited officials to give their suggestions for the welfare of the staff and would soon be convening a meeting with the stenographers posted in his district where they would be free to “extend welfare suggestions”.
