The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the State government to provide adequate police protection and support to the persons, who are involved in exhibition and distribution of film ‘Padmaavat' and to the viewers.
Issuing interim direction, the court restrained any person, group or protestors from carrying firearms, articles that might cause injury or damage to the property within 200 meters radius of cinema halls and multiplexes in the State where the movie ‘Padmaavat’ to be exhibited.
Justice Vandana Kasrekar observed “in the light of the judgement passed by the Apex Court and directions issued by the Supreme Court in the case of writ petition no. 36/2018, the respondents are bound to follow the directions issued by the Apex Court.”
The court issued the directions during hearing of a petition filed by Vicom 18 Media Private Limited against inaction of the State to take adequate security measures for exhibition of the ‘Padmaavat’ inspite of repeated request and reminders by the cinema owners and distributors.
The petitioner took the ground the Apex Court order passed in Writ Petition No. 36/2018 wherein it stayed the orders passed by various states from distribution and exhibition of the film in respective states.
The Apex Court directed the States to sustain law and order situation and to provide police protection for peaceful exhibition of the film.
