Nyaaya is an initiative to make the law accessible and understandable to all. It is a collective of lawyers from diverse backgrounds working on innovative ways to simplify legal knowledge and create access to justice. The vision is a world where everyone can resolve their legal issues easily and independently.
In a diverse nation like India, the lack of awareness about the laws and the complex legal system acts as a formidable challenge to access justice. Nyaaya, an open-access digital resource, is on a mission to bridge the gaps and empower Indian citizens with simple, actionable, and reliable legal information.
What is the Samvidhaan Fellowship?
The Samvidhaan Fellowship, an initiative by Nyaaya, harnesses the power of legal awareness and representation to the grassroot communities as a catalyst for positive change. Designed for district-level practicing lawyers in Karnataka, this Fellowship focuses on empowering individuals and communities with knowledge of their legal rights and offering legal representation to underserved and underrepresented groups.
Samvidhaan Fellowship Impact 2023-24
The impact thus far includes:
- 7 dedicated fellows
- Over 300 video explainers addressing various legal issues
- 130 successful legal literacy and capacity building programs conducted
- An outreach that has reached over 5000 individuals in Karnataka
- Collaboration with 12 partner organizations
- Featured in more than 35 media publications
Call for Applications – Second Cohort
Nyaaya has opened applications for the second cohort. Nyaaya is seeking dedicated individuals committed to promoting legal empowerment and social justice in their communities in Karnataka. Selected Fellows will receive mentorship, training, and resources to drive meaningful change at the grassroots level. This is a paid opportunity (monthly stipend), open exclusively to lawyers with a minimum of three years' experience practicing in and around courts in Karnataka. Applicants must be fluent in Kannada and well-acquainted with the local legal landscape. Applications from women and individuals from socially disadvantaged communities are encouraged.
