The Centre for Legal Aid and Programme (CLAP) at the National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Common Service Centre (CSC) volunteers, has undertaken the adoption of Jaipur Gram Panchayat, Kanke, Jharkhand under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA). The UBA flagship program was initiated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to foster a strong partnership between higher educational institutions and rural communities. The initiative by CLAP, named Project Pragati, aims to solve the socio-economic and legal challenges of the village through the active involvement of students, faculty members, and local stakeholders. The project was officially sanctioned between CLAP and the Gram Panchayat authorities on December 7, 2024.
The Centre for Legal Aid and Programme (CLAP) was founded in the 2010s as a student and faculty-run society dedicated to promoting legal awareness and providing effective legal aid. Over the years, CLAP has engaged in numerous initiatives to empower marginalized communities by facilitating access to justice, legal resources, and government welfare schemes. Through its structured approach, CLAP has consistently worked to bridge the gap between legal education and grassroots activism. The current office bearers of CLAP include Faculty Convenor Dr. Koushik Bagchi, Faculty Co-Convenor Dr. Shweta Mohan, Student Advisor Harsh Anmol, Student Convenor Anannaya Sangra, Treasurer Vaishnavi, and Secretary Aman Ayush.
Project Pragati is designed to ensure sustainable and holistic development in Jaipur Gram Panchayat. Under this initiative, CLAP has committed to regular visits to the village, actively engaging with residents to identify and address pressing concerns related to education, healthcare, and legal awareness. The initiative focuses on enhancing the community's understanding of their legal rights, facilitating access to government schemes, improving healthcare services, and addressing gaps in educational infrastructure. By leveraging the expertise of faculty members and the enthusiasm of students, Project Pragati aims to implement locally tailored solutions that foster self-reliance and inclusive growth. With a strong commitment to social justice and community development, CLAP continues to work towards making meaningful and transformative changes in Jaipur Gram Panchayat.
