In a landmark initiative at the intersection of law and technology, the National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Counsello AI, a pioneering legal AI company, to jointly develop AI-powered legal and regulatory solutions. This partnership aims to advance artificial intelligence applications in legal research, drafting, and regulatory compliance, reinforcing India's leadership in legal- tech innovation.

In a significant move to foster startup incubation in legal technology, NLU Delhi has also launched the NLU Delhi Foundation, a Section 8 company and started a Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), dedicated to incubating and supporting startups in the legal and regulatory technology space. Counsello AI is the first company to be incubated under this initiative, marking a new chapter in the university's commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the legal sector.

Furthermore, as part of its technological collaboration with Counsello AI, NLU Delhi is set to launch its own legal AI model, "Nyayasutra" which will be trained exclusively on Indian case laws and legal jurisprudence. This first-of-its-kind AI model will enable practitioners, researchers, and policymakers to access highly accurate and context-specific AI-driven legal insights, ensuring greater efficiency and precision in legal analysis and decision-making.

Speaking about the collaboration, Prof. (Dr.) G.S. Bajpai, Vice-Chancellor, NLU Delhi, stated: “This partnership with Counsello AI is a transformative step towards integrating artificial intelligence into legal domain and practice. Their goal is to harness AI's potential to enhance legal research, improve access to justice, and contribute to the digital transformation of India's legal system.”

Rajat Sethi, co-founder of Counsello AI, remarked: “We are honored to be the first startup incubated at NLU Delhi. This collaboration is a testament to the growing role of AI in the legal sector, and we look forward to co-developing solutions that will shape the future of legal and regulatory technology in India.”

Through this partnership, NLU Delhi and Counsello AI aim to set new benchmarks in AI- driven legal solutions, reinforcing India's position as a hub for legal-tech innovation.
