NALSAR Wins The ICC Paris Mediation Competition 2023

A team of four students from the NALSAR University, Hyderabad emerged champions at the 2023 #ICCMW, which was the International Chamber of Commerce’s 18th Mediation Competition. This is the first time ever that an Indian team has won the world’s most prestigious mediation competition in its 18-year history.
The team, comprising of Shravani Shendye, Mehreen Mander, Swathi Reshmita and Arjun Nayyar, and coached by international mediator and negotiation coach, A.J. Jawad, beat University of Trento, Italy to qualify for the finals. Pitted against the formidable New York Law School team from the US, they were declared the winners. The final round was at the Science Po University of Law in Paris and was witnessed by students, mediators, arbitrators and lawyers coming from all parts of the world.
The week-long, capacity-building event brought together from nearly 60 countries, 167 students, 68 coaches, 159 ADR professionals and 49 volunteers was a spectacular one with 48 of the best teams from the top universities of the world pitting their communication, negotiation and strategising skills against each other in over 100 mock mediations.
Judged and mediated by top ADR practitioners and academics from all over the world, the champions were conferred prizes ranging from:

- Confirmed places for an ICC Regional Conference in a region of their choosing (subject to availability)
- Confirmed places to one of the ICC Institute of World Business Law trainings
- 5-day Civil-Commercial Mediation Training Course with ADR ODR International, a thought leader in the field of alternate and online dispute resolution
- International online mediation training (university certified and IMI certified) with IM Campus
- 1-month internship with ADR ODR International (for one person, subject to selection)
- Online Foundation Certificate in Commercial Mediation course (accredited by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators) with Mediator Academy
- 1 year subscription to the ICC Dispute Resolution powered by Jus Mundi including access to digital versions of various volumes by esteemed mediators.
The success of the young team holds tremendous potential for the growth of ADR and ODR in India.
