National Law University Odisha (NLUO), established in 2008, is a premier institution dedicated to legal education and research. Situated in Cuttack, Odisha, NLUO has consistently fostered academic excellence, producing leaders in the legal field. The university emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, ensuring that students are well-equipped to tackle emerging challenges in law and policy.
LexTech - Centre for Law, Entrepreneurship & Innovation is a student-driven initiative at NLUO that explores the intersection of law and technology. The centre focuses on areas like FinTech, AI, Data Privacy, Online Gaming, and Tech Regulation, bridging the gap between legal academia and industry. Through research, competitions, and expert-led discussions, LexTech aims to foster innovation and policy-driven solutions in the legal-tech space.
Lexathon 2025, NLUO's flagship Tech-Law Conclave, is a first-of-its-kind event bringing together lawyers, policymakers, industry experts, and students to discuss regulatory challenges in emerging technologies. Scheduled from March 7th - 9th, 2025, the conclave features a mix of panel discussions, competitions, and networking opportunities.
As part of this grand event, three flagship competitions are being hosted designed to encourage legal research, policy analysis, and entrepreneurial innovation.
1. Paper Presentation Competition
The Paper Presentation Competition at Lexathon 2025 is designed to encourage in-depth legal research and discussion on emerging issues in Legal-Tech and Innovation. Participants will explore critical topics such as E-Wallet Security, Deepfakes, AI in Securities, Data Sovereignty, and Digital Privacy Regulations, among others. The competition offers students an opportunity to present their research before an esteemed panel of industry experts, policymakers, and legal professionals, gaining valuable feedback, recognition, and internship opportunities. With a focus on fostering academic excellence and practical insights, this competition serves as a prestigious platform for aspiring legal scholars and tech-law enthusiasts.
- Theme: Emerging Areas in Legal-Tech and Innovation
- Eligibility: UG & PG law students (individual or team of two)
- Prizes: ₹20,000 + internships at Saraf and Partners & The Dialogue + publication in NLUO's Tech Law Journal
- Registration Fee: ₹300 (single author) / ₹500 (co-authors)
Note: In case a paper gets selected, additional accommodation and hospitality fees
In collaboration with Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy and LexTech - Centre for Law, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, the Policy Drafting Competition at Lexathon 2025 invites students to engage in comprehensive legal and policy research, crafting innovative policy solutions for contemporary issues in technology law. The competition aims to bridge the gap between legal academia and policy making, encouraging students to propose well-reasoned, implementable policy recommendations.
The problem statement for this competition focuses on Child Safety in Digital Spaces and has been drafted by Ms. Kriti Trehan, Founder of Data & Co - Law & Policy Advisors. She has previously served as a Senior Management at Netflix and Amazon.

3. Start-Up Pitch Competition

The Start-Up Pitch Competition at Lexathon 2025 is designed for early-stage startups looking to refine their business strategies and gain insights from industry leaders. Whether you are in the ideation phase or already scaling your venture, this competition provides a platform to pitch your business, receive expert feedback, and network with investors, policymakers, and professionals.
- Who Can Participate? Students with early-stage start-up ideas
- Mode: Physical, at NLUO, Cuttack
- Prizes: Cash pool of ₹50,000 + networking with investors, mentors, and accelerators
- Registration Fee: ₹500 per team
- Deadline: Limited slots on a first-come, first-serve basis
