    GMU is an endeavor by the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB), the state regulator for ports and maritime activities in Gujarat. The University has been conceived by visionaries to address the burgeoning need for a skilled workforce in the ever-changing dynamics of the maritime sector. The University commenced its academic journey in 2019 with the establishment of its first School - School of Maritime Law, Policy & Administration (SMLPA), which offers LL.M and Post Graduate Diploma programs in Maritime Law and International Trade Law. In pursuit of creating an institution of global standards, GMU has collaborated with internationally prominent institutions like Erasmus University and STC International. Many more such alliances shall be forged in time to come.

    The GMU Academy On International Fisheries Law

    International Fisheries Laws encompass regulations that govern the management, conservation, and responsible use of global fisheries resources. They address issues such as sustainable fishing practices, cooperation among nations, conservation of marine ecosystems, and the prevention of overfishing to ensure the long-term viability of fisheries.GMU Academy on International Fisheries Law aims to impart a thorough understanding of global fisheries management regulations. It covers international agreements, regulations, and practices promoting sustainable fishing. The workshop addresses critical topics related to fisheries conservation, management, and global promotion of responsible fishing practices, etc.

    Sessions will be taken by some of the leading Fisheries Law experts from both India and abroad. In the past, GMU has successfully organized four editions of Academy to date. The first two editions of GMU Academy were on Maritime Labor Law. The third edition was related to Oceans Law and Policy. The last edition was organized in December 2022, and it was on Admiralty Law.

    Significance Of The Course

    GMU Academy aims to advance knowledge and positively influence society by focusing on the current legal framework concerning International Fisheries Law. This program will provide participants with insights into contemporary and advanced matters related to International Fisheries Law, making it valuable for individuals aspiring to specialize in maritime and fisheries sectors. The event caters to those interested in understanding the present legal landscape of International Fisheries Law and its associated complexities.
