The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, through its DPIIT-IPR Chair, Centre for Study and Research in Intellectual Property Rights (CSRIPR), is offering a Single Credit Course on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) and FRAND Commitments. This specialized course aims to provide an in-depth understanding of SEPs, their role in global technology standards, and the legal complexities surrounding Fair, Reasonable, and Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) licensing. The course is open to academicians, researchers, legal professionals, engineers, and individuals from related fields interested in intellectual property rights and technology law.
The course features an expert panel of industry-leading professionals. Mr. Vivek Ranjan, Advocate and Partner at Kommit Techno-Legal LLP, specializes in SEP litigation and has extensive experience in arbitration, technology law, and pharmaceuticals. Mr. Nishant Sharma, Lead Counsel at Dolby Technology India, brings expertise in patent licensing and litigation, with a background in both electronics engineering and law. Additionally, Prof. (Dr.) M.R. Sreenivasa Murthy, DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor and Faculty Convenor at CSRIPR, NUSRL, Ranchi, will provide academic insights into the subject.
The course curriculum is designed to cover various critical aspects of SEPs, including standard development organizations, FRAND commitments, SEP laws across jurisdictions, competition law implications, and litigation strategies. The program consists of 15 hours of instruction over one month, including assessments. Classes will be conducted online, making it accessible to participants from different locations.
A total of 30 seats are available for general applicants, with an additional 15 seats reserved for NUSRL students. The registration fee is ₹1500, which includes study materials and assessment costs, while NUSRL students can enroll for ₹300. Admission is granted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
