The School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, in collaboration with Khaitan & Co, hosted the landmark 10th edition of the School of Law CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Trial Advocacy and Judgment Writing Competition (SLCUTAC) from January 10 - 12, 2025. Celebrating a decade of unparalleled excellence, this prestigious event witnessed participation from 26 premier law schools across India, solidifying SLCUTAC's position as a hallmark of trial advocacy and judgment writing.

The grand event commenced with an inaugural ceremony presided over by Justice N. Kumar (Former Judge, High Court of Karnataka) and Ms. Tamarra Sequeira (Partner, Dispute Resolution, Khaitan & Co). Their valuable insights into trial advocacy and the evolving landscape of legal practice set the tone for the competition. The Advanced Criminal Law Studies Committee (ACLSC), comprising dedicated students and faculty convenors, played a pivotal role in orchestrating the event's seamless execution. The trial proposition, meticulously designed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), featured critical sections—61, 103(1), and 238 read with 3(5)—challenging participants to master the intricacies of Indian criminal law while integrating newly enacted legislation.

The grand finale on January 12, 2025, was a face-off between National Law University, Jodhpur (NLUJ) and the National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi (NUALS). The high-stakes trial was adjudicated by an eminent panel of luminaries, including Justice V. Gopala Gowda (Former Judge, Supreme Court of India), Senior Advocates Mr. Udaya Holla (Former Advocate General of Karnataka), Mr. K. Arvind Kamath (Additional Solicitor General of India, High Court of Karnataka), Mr. Sandesh Chouta (Former Additional Advocate General of Karnataka), and Special Public Prosecutor Mr. P. Prasanna Kumar (CBI & NIA).

For over three hours, the finalists captivated the audience with compelling arguments, examined 10 witnesses, and skillfully analyzed CCTV footage to unravel a complex web of motives, secrets, and circumstantial evidence. Their exceptional advocacy, teamwork, and command over criminal litigation were on full display, leaving an indelible impression on all present.
