The Madhya Pradesh High Court has sought reply within four weeks from the state government on a PIL against inadequate or no facility of washrooms and retiring rooms for women cops in most of the police stations and outposts across the state.
Advocate Amitabh Gupta filed the PIL seeking direction to the state government to ensure healthy and hygienic environment to the women cops deployed in the police stations and outposts in thr entire state.
The petitioner cited certain news reports on the basis of which the PIL is filed.
Gupta said: “Because of lack of the facility of washrooms, women officials are prone to renal diseases as well as high blood pressure and other related health complications.”
He argued: “It cannot be expected from a working woman to discharge her duties without the basic necessities like washrooms, without which no human being can work with dignity, especially a woman.”
The petition claimed the state government has failed to provide washrooms and retiring rooms in the police stations/outposts for women cops, which is apathy towards the basic requirements of working women.
The petition further said: “There are many police stations/outposts wherein women cops posted have common washrooms, that, too, in an absolute unhygienic condition.”
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice Vijay Kumar Shukla allowed the prayer of government advocate Amit Seth seeking some time to file reply.
