Jharkhand HC On Ambitious Drive To Reduce NI Cases

In an initiative to reduce pending cases in courts, the Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court has asked special judges of the state to dispose of 35 per cent of pending cases related to cheque bounce by this December.

Experts say it would be a landmark achievement, if the target is achieved in such short time. The task is challenging as vacations are scheduled in the courts in October, November and December.

Acting Chief Justice DN Patel issued the order during a video-conferencing with special judges handling cases of cheque bounce under the Negotiable Instrument Act.

Justice Patel said, “Immediately get into the mission mode to achieve the target. The more we dispose of the cases, the more faith people will have on us.”

Special judges of all 24 districts, principal district judges and the officer bearers of the district bar associations participated in the discussion.

Justice Patel called upon the judges and district bar members to dispose of more than 50 per cent of the targeted cases through mediation.

A special mediation drive would be conducted from September 1 to 7 in this regard.

Similar campaigns would follow in October and November.

Over three lakh cases of different nature are pending before the courts in state.
